If you don’t want to go to the Nebraska Best Dad Ever Father’s Day shirt rock, there is also the Larapinta Trail, through the West McDonnell Ranges, you can trek. If you do it through a company called World Expeditions you will also have the experience of an indigenous educator teaching a little about the local traditions. You can still go and not climb! We went and didn’t climb and it was still amazing in the afternoon when the sun hit the rock. Just go. There are plenty of other places to visit, not just the Rock. Me too, my son and I went and intended to climb but it was too windy so climbing was canceled.
However, after seeing the Nebraska Best Dad Ever Father’s Day shirt rock and being there for 24hours, the need to climb it deserted me. not only are the geological makeup different, but the fact that there are these two giant rock formations in such close proximity ( from memory, 14 km apart ) in this giant expanse of otherwise, sandy semi-arid desert. Mind-boggling really. What a joke. Uluru is just amazing to visit without having to conquer it and in doing so disrespect the wishes of the traditional owners. Just get over the climb and focus on the stories that can be told by the owners of their amazing history and way of seeing the land. Walk around. It is such an amazing edifice and walking around parts or all of it is just extraordinary. I have been there twice. It is a special place that is intriguing and magical without having to climb!!
